Upcoming Volunteer Opportunities

Members are the backbone of the Catamount Trail and support its maintenance and protection. The Trail was founded, built, and is maintained by members. There are many ways to become involved with CTA other than joining or sponsoring the organization.
This summer we have events which we will need many volunteers for. Please continue to refer back to the list below for updates to our volunteer needs. Contact Emily Licht at outreach@catamounttrail.org or call (802) 864-5794 to sign up for one of our many volunteer opportunities. Thank you!
Friday Office Volunteers
The CTA office is seeking eager volunteers to join us for our new office volunteer work days. Each Friday from 9am-12pm we will have a host of tasks for willing participants to help us complete including mailings, sorting equipment, cutting flyers, data entry and proof reading our newsletter. This is a great opportunity to become familiar with the CTA staff and learn more about what we do year round. Volunteers will go home knowing that they are doing their part to help maintain and preserve some of Vermont's most treasured land.
Anyone interested should email Emily at outreach@catamounttrail.org or call the CTA office at 802-864-5794. You do not need to be available for all three hours, or on every Friday. We have room for 1-3 people each Friday. If a different time, or more consistent schedule works for you, please call the office so we can make alternate arrangements. Please let us know if there is a specific task that suits you best. Thank you!

Other Volunteer Opportunities at CTA
Fall Trail Work
Check out our Fall 2012 Trail Work Schedule for the complete list of work days to find a day that fits your schedule. The schedule provides the contact information of the respective trail chief so you can get in touch on your own.
Be sure to bring water, food, gloves (if you have them), any tools you might have, and wear footwear for hiking. We'll supply the technical expertise, extra tools, and arrange the logistics. You'll be glad you contributed and the entire Catamount community will thank you for your service!
We also have a series of summer volunteer work weekends to help with more substantial trail construction projects. Visit the News and Events section for more up to date information on summer work weekends.
Easement Monitoring
In order to ensure that the Catamount Trail remains open and available to the public for years to come, CTA has a Trail Protection Program and works with willing landowners to obtain permanent trail access easements. These easements ensure that the trail remains open for skiing and that improper use of the trail corridor, such as building a structure on the trail, does not occur.
CTA has developed a form for annual monitoring and is seeking volunteers who will walk a protected trail segment each year. Training will be provided. Our protected segments can be found the length of the state. If you would like to participate in the monitoring program, please call Amy Kelsey at the CTA office at 864-5794.
Trail Chiefs
Trail Chiefs are vital to the maintenance and organization of the Catamount Trail. These dedicated volunteers serve as liaisons between the various trail sections and the office staff. For more information, check out our Trail Chief page or contact Amy Kelsey at akelsey@catamounttrail.org or (802) 864-5794.
Catamount Ski Cubs Program
Love to ski? Love to work with kids? Love environmental education? The CTA will be running a Nordic program again this winter for kids in the Burlington area. We would love to have enthusiastic skiers to help with Nordic coaching and hands-on environmental education. If interested, visit our website and please contact Emily at outreach@catamounttrail.org.
Shuttle Drivers
A constant challenge for thru-skiers of the Catamount Trail is the issue of transportation to and from the trail. The Catamount Trail is compiling a list of contacts who would be willing to shuttle ambitious skiers to and from trail access points.
For more details or if you are interested in adding your name or business to the list, please contact outreach@catamounttrail.org.
Office Help
The CTA's small staff would love occasional volunteers who could help with mailing distributions, proofreading, filing, and a variety of other office tasks. If interested in assisting in this way, please contact outreach@catamounttrail.org.
Event Volunteers
The CTA has a number of events throughout the year where we rely heavily upon our volunteers to be successful (for example, The Race to the Top of Vermont or the Annual Meeting). Volunteers who help at these events are greatly appreciated because we at the CTA couldn't do it without them! To add your name to our list of event volunteers, email outreach@catamounttrail.org or call the office at (802) 864-5794.
Tour Leaders
The CTA offers a number of multi-day tours on the Catamount Trail throughout the winter. A key element to the success of these tours are experienced, energetic, and responsible tour leaders. For more information, take a look at our Tour Leader webpage and don't hesitate to call the office at (802) 864-5794 with any questions you may have.
