2012 3-Day Tour in Southern Vermont

Dates: Friday, January 20th to Sunday, January 22nd

Trail Sections: Section 6, Section 7, & Section 8
Kendall Farm Road (Winhall) to Greendale (Weston)

Greetings!

I am Dean Bloch, the coordinator of the Southern Three-Day Tour, January 20-22, which will include sections 6, 7 and 8. I am very much looking forward to this trip! There will be tour-specific information posted or linked on this page, and on the forum page below.

I have found the multi-day tours to be a great way to ski sections of the trail that I might not ski on my own, and also a great way to meet some super people. So please consider skiing this tour even if you are not currently a member of the Catamount Trail Association, or haven't skied these sections, or don't usually ski with other people.

Aside from the great skiing, we will have a fun get-together on Saturday night at the lovely home of Dagny St. John in South Londonderry. More details will be forthcoming!

This tour will have a combination of intermediate and easy sections, but it is still a backcountry tour, and adverse snow conditions such as ice or heavy powder can make moderate terrain very challenging. I would ask that you read the page entitled "Skills and Fitness Guidelines" below. CTA tours are certainly not races, but we want to make sure that skiers will be able to complete the tour in a reasonable amount of time so they don't endanger themselves or others. And we want you to enjoy the tour!

In advance of registering for the tour, you are welcome to send me an email or call me to discuss whether this tour is a good match for your ability and experience. If it turns out this tour is not a good match, I'd be happy to recommend other tours that might be better matched.

I want to give a BIG THANKS to: Andrew Harper, who is helping to coordinate this tour and who is also leading the Section 7 tour on Saturday; Dagny St. John, who is leading the Section 6 tour on Friday and who is one of the Trail Chiefs of Section 6, and who is hosting our Saturday night get-together(!); and Jonathan Bigelow, who is leading the Section 8 tour on Sunday and is also the Trail Chief of Section 8. I also would like to thank Debby Dorsett, who is the other Trail Chief of Section 6, and Grant Braddish and Michael Scronic, who are the Trail Chiefs of Section 7. Also, many thanks to Bob Jordan, Jill Aspinall and Rich Larsen, as well as the CTA staff, for much behind the scenes assistance!

We are planning on having great snow for this tour! But in the event that we don't, I am still planning to have outings each day, such as hikes or snow-shoes.

Information about the tour will be posted on the forum page below as we get closer. If you have any questions or would like to discuss any of the above, you can post questions on the forum, which is a public site. If you would rather, please feel free to give me a call or send me an e-mail. I hope to see you on the snow!
