Notice to Skiers:
December 22, 2010: There are three active logging operations on GMNF land between French Hollow Road and South Road this winter. This section is closed at this time to facilitate safe skiing and safe logging.
For additional information on this logging project, which encompasses a variety of management activities including deer wintering area improvement, wildlife habitat creation and enhancement, fish and stream habitat enhancement, watershed restoration, historic site protection and maintenance, forest health improvement as well as the production of wood products, please contact us.
Section 6: Kendall Farm Road to South Road
Snapshot:
This section includes a little bit of everything: unplowed roads, a short stretch of snowmobile trail, a 0.25-mile road walk, and long stretches of ungroomed trail through the Green Mountain National Forest. There is one long climb on a snowmobile trail and one steep, switch-backing descent to Rte. 30. Otherwise the terrain is generally level, with some gentle ups and downs.
Length: 9.0 miles
Difficulty:
Except for the steep descent to Rte. 30, this section is easy to ski. Except for the 0.5 mile stretch on a snowmobile trail it is all ungroomed. Allow sufficient time if breaking trail through the usually deep snow. The intersection of Rte. 30 and French Hollow Rd. provides an intermediate bail-out point for breaking this section into two.
