The Date: Sunday, August 29, 2010

The Event: Run, mountain bike, or non-competitively hike up the highest mountain in Vermont on the famous Mt Mansfield Toll Road. This event will be limited to the first 900 registered racers.

Important Race Info For Registered Participants

Late Race Registration and Bib Pickup: All race registration will take place at the Midway Lodge located directly above the base of the gondola. Follow signs on Route 108.

Registration hours: Saturday, Aug 28th 5:00pm-7:00pm and Sunday, Aug 29th 7:30am-8:30am. There will be no registrations after 8:30am so make sure you arrive early. Tell your friends who plan to register on race day! Please give yourself 10 minutes to get to the start by car and 10 minutes by mountain bike.

Start Times:  Hikers and Runners = 9:00am (hikers line up in back of runners) Mountain bikers = 10:00am

Parking:
Mountain bikers
will stay parked at registration and ride down to the start at the base of the Toll Road. (approximately 2 miles) Please ride single file on route 108.
Runners and Hikers
will park at the Toll Road overflow parking opposite the race starting line parking lot, and at the Mount Mansfield Touring Center Parking located 1/4 mile below the start of the race. Please walk single file on route 108.

Hiker Transportation from Finish to Start: We anticipate most participants will return to the base by foot.  However, there will be limited transportation from the finish area at the summit parking lot back to the base of the Toll Road. Bus transportation will leave the finish area approximately 30 minutes after the first hiker has finished. There will be other official vehicles leaving the finish every 30 minutes to minimize traffic on the Toll Road.

Personal Transportation Down the Mountain: A limited amount of personal support vehicles will be allowed up the Toll Road. An auto pass may be obtained at registration. Vehicles/drivers who wish to transport participants from the finish must drive to the summit prior to 8:50am and must stay until the race is finished.  A limited amount of vehicles with three or more car passes (given to them by participants who need a ride down) will be allowed to drive up the Toll Road at no charge. Vehicles with less than three passes will be charged $15.00 per car. Car passes are located as a tear off on the bottom of bib.  Auto passes up the Toll Road may be purchased at race registration.

Mountain Bikers descent down the Mountain: Mountain bikers will be allowed to ride down the mountain single file behind the official lead mountain bike pacer with orange vest.  It is imperative that they stay to the right hand side of the Toll Road to avoid interfering with racers coming up. There will be a lead mountain bike pacer every 20 minutes. We ask that no mt bikers exceed 15 mph on the descent. Anyone who exceeds this speed or interferes with ascending racers will be disqualified.

Mountain Bike Shortcut to Midway Lodge:
Mountain bikers will use the Cross Over Trail, which exits the Toll Road approximately half way down the course. This is the shortest and most direct route to Midway Lodge. There are many water bars located on the Trail.  Please go very slow and use extreme caution.

Electronic Timing: All runners and mt bikers will receive a timing chip in your race packet. Please make sure the chip matches your bib number. Mt bikers chip will go on the front axle skewer while the runner’s chip will go on the shoelaces. Please read the enclosed directions in your race packet. Hikers will not have a timing chip because they will not be timed.

Bib Number: Please make sure your bib number is displayed on your chest or on the front of your bike.  All mt bikers will have a helmet number as well. Place helmet number on the front of helmet.

Water Station: There will be one water stop half way up the Toll Road. There will also be water at the finish.

Summit Parking Lot and Surrounding Area: The summit area of Mt Mansfield is the home to species of Arctic vegetation that are very fragile to disturbance. Please respect this resource and stay off all vegetation and only walk on designated trails.

Warm-up Clothing: There is no protection from the elements at the summit parking lot (finish area). Temperatures may be as much as 20 degrees colder than the start area. We will provide small clear trash bags with tags at start line gatehouse or you may use a personal duffle bag. An official vehicle will transport the bags to the summit finish area.  Hikers may want to carry a waterproof jacket with them.

BBQ and Awards: The chicken BBQ with live music will start at 11:30am at the Midway Lodge. Awards will start at 12:30pm followed by raffle prizes. Participants must be present to win over $14,000 in raffle prizes and awards. Each participant will have one raffle ticket in their race packet but may purchase more raffle tickets to increase their chances of winning. Extra tickets will be 2 for $5.00 or 5 tickets for $10.  Anyone present may purchase a raffle ticket.  Alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages will be available for purchase.

We hope you have a really fun day and while you are enjoying the BBQ, check out all the benefits you receive by becoming a Catamount Trail Member.
