we skied section 9 from greendale road to healdville this past sunday. coming down ludlow mountain where the ct runs near the healdville trail, there is a maple sugaring operation very close to the trail. it looks like they are using atv's with cat tracks to access the area. they have been driving on one portion of the ct and made it extremely hard and icy, with a small amount of deceptive snow on top. it appears they drove on it after the big rain a few mondays ago, and have been driving on it since. we found it to be unexpected and dangerous. and even if there is new snowfall, the atv cats will likely keep it packed and hard for some time.

we broke trail on the ct from the snowmobile trail over to the healdville trail. the snow is consolidated and somewhat heavy, but turnable and fun. it created alot of resistance when skiing through it. suddenly hitting the atv cat track was like suddenly hitting a luge run with a dusting of snow on it.

the vast #7 portion of the trail was easy skiing. however there are several gullies crossing the trail likely caused by the big rain as well. they are frozen and generally pretty easy to get across with skis on.

Thank you for passing along your report on trail conditions. Another skier reported similar tracks on the CT in this area a few weeks ago and passed it along to the local state lands managers. The sugaring operation on the state forest land is new this season, and we are hopeful that once this is addressed with the lessee, motorized use of the CT will end promptly.

A bit of snow would certainly help, too!
