Sections 1 and 2 took a bit of a beating from Irene. Sec 1 has a small slide and a major washout in the old railroad bed south of Harriman Dam. These will require minor reroutes and clearing to be skiable. On Section 2 the saddest sight was Wilder Brook Bridge, see the attached pictures. This had been broken and swept downstream two years ago. Last year TransCanada had it winched back up and spliced together and reset in place. During Irene, a good-sized spruce hit it roots-first and broke it again. The splices held it together, but they are bent, the railings are broken again, the decking is all twisted. The bridge was cabled to a tree on each end and might have held except for the battering ram effect of the spruce. With enough snow and ice, the stream can be crossed carefully just upstream of the bridge site. Another roadbed washout occurred north of the cut, it is not clear what the landowner will decide to do about this. I'm sure there are other reports of damage to the trail.
