Can anyone tell me if there are skiable glades above the CT on either Burnt or Ludlow mountains? I'm looking for steeper pitches requiring skins to reach turnable terrain. Thanks.

Hi Grant, there are nice turns to be had on Burnt Mountain (both north and south sections of the Catamount Trail), and on the north side of Bear Mountain, which is just south of Burnt. I'm not sure it's what you're looking for: truthfully, I don't usually skin here - it's possible for a stubborn person to climb up on no-wax skis in most conditions (although not advisable if you're on a long trip and need to save legs in deep snow.)

I usually ski there on hybrid bc/touring equipment and 2-buckle boots, and have stuck to the trail. It's a fun workout with lots of turns to ski from Round Top Road up and over Burnt, then back, takes maybe 2 hours. I do think there's some exploring to be done off the trail, but I haven't done it.

I'm not as familiar with Ludlow Mountain, except I'm picturing a lot of evergreens in my memory of the hiking trail up it.

Hope that answers some of your questions! Lynn
