Hi...
Those of us at the Southern end of the Catamount Trail are curious about the extent of recent ice storm damage along the trail. In extreme Southern VT, as in NW MA, we know that lots of trees are down on local trails, making many of them entirely impassable. It would be helpful to know how far north this damage ranges, especially along the Catamount Trail... If you can add local reports from your area, please do so...
Thanks much!

We are working on getting a sense of the damage. I will be sure to post any updates I receive from trail chiefs or others after the weekend. And yes, I encourage all forum users to post any reports they have on the status of the southern sections of the trail.

I (mostly) finished my trailwork on Sections 1 and 2 a week after the ice storm. Although I didn't ski through all 15 miles, there is no sign of damage at any of the trail heads, and not much damage at the lower elevations along the roads nearby either. Section 3 at the south end should be fine, I don't know how far north you can go before it gets bad.

I was planning on skiing my section (11, over Burnt Mountain) tomorrow to assess damage. But, we've got over 2.5 feet of new snow and I just wouldn't be able to get very far breaking trail by myself. If anyone near this area (Plymouth/Ludlow/Bridgewater) is interested in skiing it once the snow pack settles in more, let me know. It's still on my to-do list.

I've skied the southern section of Section 5 from the Stratton-Arlington Rd. to Stratton Pond twice in the last week and returned on side trails and there are very few trees down...in fact no more than usual... The conditions are superb...
On the northern section of Section 4 near Grout Pond, there do seem to be a number of trees down across the trail, especially in eastward-facing areas, though higher elevation trails are generally clear...
